Hispanic Unity of Florida (HUF), la organización sin fines de lucro más grande del condado de Broward ofreciendo servicios a familias trabajadoras multiculturales durante 40 años, recibió recientemente una donación de $ 100.000 por parte de Share Our Strength, una organización nacional de lucha contra el hambre, para brindar ayuda gratuita a través de los servicios extendidos de preparación de impuestos con expertos, y también apoyar los esfuerzos de promoción e inscripción, lo que permite a las familias reclamar íntegramente los beneficios del Crédito Tributario por Hijos (CTC, por sus siglas en inglés).

Hispanic Unity of Florida (HUF), Broward County’s largest nonprofit serving multi-cultural working families for 40 years, recently received a $100,000 grant from Share Our Strength, a national anti-hunger organization, to provide  extended expert tax services at no cost, and support outreach and enrollment efforts, allowing families to claim the full benefits of the Child Tax Credit (CTC).

 

It is not a surprising conclusion that trust is an essential element for the success of any immigrant family-focused program or service. Nor is it surprising that immigrants have trust issues with agencies or nonprofit organizations. Anti-immigrant sentiment, potential consequences for use of certain public benefits1 and the threat of deportation2 are among the factors that can deter immigrant and refugee families from placing trust in formal systems or government agencies and prevent them from accessing needed services. In this context, it is important to understand what strategies and interventions are key for developing trust. Simply put, without trusting relationships between clients and staff, an organization cannot effectively provide family services to immigrants and refugees.

Today, the Urban League of Broward County (ULBC) and Hispanic Unity of Florida (HUF) took bold steps to analyze social and economic inequities that exist between racial/ethnic groups through the release of State of Black Broward and State of Hispanic and Immigrant Broward.

Today, HUF provides assistance through 12 programs and 30+ services in four languages to South Florida's diverse community. HUF, an UnidosUS Affiliate, is one of South Florida’s largest agencies dedicated to the immigrant population, providing them with the tools they need to build a new life.
